Friday Photo #9

Friday, January 17, 2014
Hello!

Well, I definitely missed a couple of Fridays, but that's okay. I've had a great few weeks enjoying time with family and friends, so my Friday Photo blogging has taken a back burner until today.

I returned back Albany to find winter in full force. It's not my favorite, but I'm doing my best to enjoy the good parts. I like snow if I don't have to drive in it. I don't mind the cold temperatures if I can be cozy inside with a warm drink, but I am not a fan of frozen nose hairs. I actually really enjoy the sunny days that accompany Albany winters.

This photo is from our first winter on the East Coast. The snow does make for a peaceful photo excursion around the neighborhood. Definitely planning on more winter photography again this year!

Friday Photo #8

Well, it's the Friday before Christmas and I can't wait to be headed home to see family in just a couple of days!

This Friday photo is from way back in 2004. Growing up, our family had the tradition of going up to the mountains to cut down our own Christmas tree.

Most years it rained, but occasionally we had to brave the snow to find our perfect noble fir.

I'm looking forward to seeing the tree this year! What are some of your favorite Christmas traditions?

I'm back in Albany and it's freezing! It was awesome spending time with family on the west coast, but I'm glad to be home with the hubby.

In just a couple of short weeks, we get to go to Seattle for Christmas in the Northwest! (Bad song, great location.)

Not much describes Christmas in the Northwest better than rain. And a slight chill to the air, but not cold enough for snow. It's kind of awesome to go outside and not have your nose hairs freeze...

Where are you spending Christmas this year? Staying close to home or traveling to see family? Hope you're getting excited!

I'm in Southern Cali this week, interviewing and spending time with family. It's been great! Today, I head to NYC for a weekend in The City with the hubby at Christmas time. I can't wait.

While we explore NYC and the famous Rockefeller Tree, I think back to the little tree lights we put on our favorite "purple plum tree" in Seattle. Complete with moss, lichen, and all things PNW (Pacific Northwest).

Any fun trees or plants you've put lights on?

Happy Day-After-Thanksgiving! Many people refer to this as "Black Friday," but to be honest, I've never been one to jump on those black Friday deals. The idea of setting an alarm clock to get up before the crack of dawn on one of my few days off, to stand in line in the cold, to hopefully score some "deal" just isn't appealing. I would rather spend the morning continuing to digest my tasty turkey dinner from the night before. And decorating for Christmas, of course.

For the next few Fridays, my Friday Photo posts will be some of my favorites about Christmas. Today, think about the smells of Christmas. I love the smell of needles on Christmas Trees. My family has a tradition of going up to the mountains to cut down a tree. Tromping around the forest, looking for the perfect 13 foot noble fir is quite the adventure.

And the whole time, we're surrounded by that fresh tree smell. I find my self taking a deep breath just thinking about it.

What are your favorite smells of Christmas?

Another week has gone by and I can't believe Thanksgiving is next Thursday!

This week's Friday photo is really a few photos combined. Just over a year ago, my lovely sister-in-law, Betsy, came to visit. She is the best. We took a trip to Vermont and had tons of fun exploring and playing in the fall leaves.

I love that in addition to my own two sisters, I gained this amazing lady as a sister when I married my husband over 5 years ago.

As we approach Thanksgiving, I am thankful for the ladies in my life who mean the world to me, and I am so blessed to have the three best sisters ever!

Who are you thankful for today?

Happy Friday!

I'm still in California for pediatric residency interviews. I'm enjoying it so far! There are some great places to take photos as well, which I will share at some point.

Today's photo is from this past summer in Idaho. Being warm in the California sun reminds me of my favorite place on earth: Priest Lake.

It's my favorite place because of all the memories. So many amazing adventures, scrumptious meals, family "cabin improvement" projects, and love abounding.

Where is your favorite place?

Hello Friends!

This is the second week of my first regular blog post topic: Friday Photo.

As I write this post, it's raining here in Albany. And I love it.

Being from Seattle, rain is like a little taste of home. I happen to be in the library right now, and the sound of the rain on the building reminds me of the sound of rain on a tarp - as in when you go camping.

We went camping a few weeks back. I forgot how great it feels to sleep outside (though my back would beg to differ).

There's something so cozy about a tent, in the middle of the woods.
At this moment, I'm quite cozy, all alone in my little corner of the library, too.

Friday Photo

Friday, November 1, 2013
Hello Friends!

I am starting my first ever regularly scheduled blog post topic! I have been reluctant to commit to something like this because my medical school schedule is so unpredictable in terms of "free time." Still, I think I can handle it for now.

Each Friday, I am going to post a photo that captures something about my week. Photos may be from a weekly event, a craft project, the weather, something tasty I ate, my mood, the season, adventures with friends... the possibilities are seemingly endless!

This week's photo

I took this photo at Thacher Park. Today, it captures both the season of the year and the season of my life. Fall means changes as leaves turn and fall. This year for me, it means I'm interviewing all over the country for pediatric residency. One of these many programs is in a city that will be our home for the next 3+ years. We've loved living in Albany and are excited to see where our next adventures get to take place!

Unfortunately, we have to wait until "Match Day" in March to find out...

Do you have any photos that capture this season for you? I'd love to see!
