Musical Pumpkin

Well, I have successfully completed my 12 week internal medicine rotation and am enjoying my first official "free weekend" since school started in early July. Naturally, I have spent this extra free time getting crafty! For a quick and fun fall project, I pulled out my mod podge, some sheet music from the Graphics Fairy, and a little pumpkin from Target.

I was inspired by this pumpkin from Pottery Barn, and I decided to create my own using sheet music instead of newsprint.

I found this image from the Graphics fairy and printed it three times. Then I cut it into strips using my paper cutter.

Next, I mod podged the strips onto the pumpkin using a paint brush and my fingers. I wasn't too particular about smoothing all the wrinkles because I liked the added texture.

Once it was dry, I covered the stem with some twine and hot-glued it to the top.

Simple, easy, musical pumpkin!

  2. Can only imagine that crafting is a welcome outlet after the stress you must have been under being on a rotation. Have to give you many hurrahs for being able to stick with such a rigorous goal. Congrats to you.
I really love your pumpkin better than the fancy expensive one. Great project and you've sure inspired me. I need to get one of those pumpkins, hope Target has some less expensive ones left. I'm trying to get hubs away from football to go to town to Target and get something to eat.
I've looked at Michaels and Jo-Ann's but even on sale they're still too rich for my budget. Hobby Lobby is closed today. We don't just run into town as it's too much gas from where we live. We live about 20 miles from craft stores, west of Grand Junction, CO almost to UT border.

    1. Thank you! I'm sure you can find less expensive ones, I just happened to be at Target and so I bought the $4 one. Hobby Lobby is definitely a good bet, or some dollar stores. You could even mod podge a real pumpkin if you are okay with throwing it away at the end of the season. Best of luck!

  4. What a great DIY! I have plans to Mod Podge some dollar store skulls with glitter for Halloween. The dollar store had similar pumpkins in orange for a buck. :)

    1. Isn't sheet music the best?! I love picking pieces that mean something to me, even if you can't tell once it's been cut and mod podged to pieces. You're probably right about Pottery Barn... I'm pretty sure it's a give and take relationship between them and us in blogland. It seems to be working well so far :) Thanks for the encouragement!
